He does this by covering one of the most important skills in doing so: the ability to stay calm at all times and under all circumstances. In the mortgage business, many days bring with them surprises, challenges, and unforeseen issues. It’s the loan officer who remains calm and keeps his or her customers calm who will enjoy a smoother process from start to finish. This begins with the loan origination process when it’s very wise to have a brief conversation with your customer about the process, what will happen next, who else they’ll be hearing from, and what will be asked of them. It’s important to let customers know that with all the rules and regulations in place that while they probably won’t like the process, they’ll definitely like the results. That helps to calm customers down from the get-go and start the process on the right foot. Dave goes on to note that other important parts of this is to not make excuses and to not get angry. Anger has no part in the mortgage business and it doesn’t help anyone. There’s a saying that “Fools vent their anger but the wise bring calm in the end.”
